By: Towanda Malinga

The 25 year old rapper/producer Levae released his first EP titled “Read Between the Lines” on the 5th of July 2019. The 7 track EP has proven to be a fan favourite after making it to the Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services top 20 with the hit “93” which he produced himself. The song debuted at number 14.

“93” marks the year the rapper was born (02/09/1993), here he lays his heart down on trying to break into the music industry and the challenges that young people face from addiction to suicide. This song touches on various topics and sounds like the rapper is thinking out loud. A line from the song reading “it’s my 2 cents on a lotta things” further stresses the many points the artist is trying to make.

To give fans an idea of what to expect on the EP, For The Love was released as the first single, the track features Mr G and Size Killa who was also the mixing engineer for the whole project. The songs speaks on the struggles up and coming artists have to endure and how the love for music can help one build confidence. Size Killa appears on the 2nd verse to further explore this concept and Mr G comes in with a silky voice to tie things up nicely.

The cover track (Be Real) featuring Fino Demico, has a descriptive feel of what the project really is about, Being real to who you are. It has an authentic and poetic approach infused with a soulful sound. The song also features SWAMA nominated artist Zoe Genesis who sings on the chorus alongside Levae.  The third verse of the song takes an unexpected turn vocally and sonically with Levae adding a flavour of trap into the mix.

Levae is also a host for Madibaz Radio which is a local campus platform. Here he uses this platform not only to present good music but engage the listeners on current affairs and socially responsible topics. Read between the lines was released under Vinyl Avenue which is a label Levae founded. Indeed musicians can make a difference.

Levae Hosted a listening session for his debut Ep at Bahle gallery in Eswatini, Mbabane on the 12 july 2019 where he gave an exclusive listen to a select audience and industry professionals. The audience was allowed to comment or ask questions concerning the music and the brand allowing for an engaging and creative environment. The next day the artist launched his EP at Solanis Shisanyama having opening performances from rappers Size Killa, Fino Demico and a few local Dj’s.

The EP is available on all digital platforms and has received great responses given it has only been out for less than 2 months. Streaming stats are over 500 plays and growing fast!
